Product Certification Resources

Product Certification Process

Certifying performance, sustainability, and quality across the laminate flooring industry.
NALFA certification isn’t just a mark of excellence—it’s a commitment to upholding the highest standards in product performance, environmental responsibility, and industry credibility.

Please note: Non-members are required to pay per product certified. Becoming a member not only covers certification costs—it also unlocks exclusive benefits, resources, and opportunities to elevate your brand within the industry.

Already certified? Stay engaged.
Even after a product is certified, continued membership ensures your company remains part of the conversation. During the five-year certification period, we encourage ongoing involvement through technical committees, marketing initiatives, and industry events. This sustained connection helps reinforce your leadership in the marketplace and builds long-term value for your business.

Manufacturers begin by submitting products to a qualified third-party lab for testing against one or more of NALFA’s industry standards:

  • LF-01: Laminate flooring performance

  • LF-02: Sustainability (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum)

  • LF-03: Underlayment performance

Approved labs include NCSU, PTL, and Intertek. Add-on certifications, such as Surface Swell Resistance, may require additional testing.

Important: Non-members are required to pay a certification fee per product. Becoming a member not only covers these costs—it also unlocks exclusive benefits, resources, and opportunities to elevate your brand within the industry.

Once testing is complete, results are submitted to NALFA for confidential review by its Technical Committee.

NALFA’s Technical Committee, including technical experts and manufacturer representatives, evaluates whether products meet the appropriate standards. If approved, the product is certified.

(LF-02, if applicable)

Products seeking LF-02 certification are scored across six sustainability categories.
Certification levels include:

  • Bronze: ≥25 points (self-certified)

  • Silver: ≥35 points

  • Gold: ≥48 points

  • Platinum: ≥65 points

Silver and above require an independent third-party assessment. Supporting documentation may include EMS registration, life cycle data, and corporate responsibility metrics.

Approved applicants sign a Licensing Agreement outlining logo usage and branding terms.

Once licensed, manufacturers may use NALFA certification logos on packaging, marketing materials, and digital platforms in accordance with guidelines.

Certified products are added to NALFA’s central certification system for a period of five years, supporting industry transparency and recognition throughout the product’s certified lifecycle.
